On November 30th at the "Canadian Annual Investment Awards Gala 2005" the two runners up for Best Use of Technology Awards for 2005 went to PlanPlus initiatives.

These awards are not designed to pick the "best software in a specific category", but rather to recognize examples of how, from the use of any type of technology, the processes, efficiency and standards in the investment industry can be improved.

PlanPlus for Students, the new web-based financial planning tool for students was recognized based on its application for students who are enrolled in financial planning or investment planning educational programs, not only in Canada but internationally. The partnership of PlanPlus with firms like Cannex, Lipper and Morningstar that provides students with not just the planning calculators and an asset allocation model but samples of the real universe of investment products in a country has moved this solution to an exciting new level for educators. PlanPlus for Students is a subset of the functionality of PlanPlus Web Advisor, the professional offering from PlanPlus.

PlanPlus DIME is an "overlay module" for PlanPlus Web Advisor that sits on an integrated database and allows a company to administer "client name fixed investment business" (certificates of deposit, term deposits, guaranteed investment certificates, etc.). In an initiative with Page & Associates in Richmond Hill, PlanPlus created a significantly streamlined, web-based platform with electronic hooks to CANNEX for automated rate updates and electronic order placement and confirmation. In an industry with thin margins and high costs of administration, PlanPlus DIME made some significant strides in reducing the administrative costs.
