Client Best Interest Standard – A Game Changer for Canada

Yesterday the Canadian Securities Administrators proposed a Client Best Interest Standard for Canada which should be a game changer for the obligations of advisors and firms to their clients. In Section 3 the regulator quotes substantial research to support the proposed changes including the research performed by PlanPlus on Global Best Practices for Risk Profiling which was completed on behalf of the Ontario Securities Commission, Investor Advisory Panel. Beware of “do it yourself” retirement planning tools

Researchers find that two thirds of them fail to make the grade Three Texas Tech researchers recently tested 36 publicly-available online retirement planning applications, and came up with a disappointing finding – namely that two thirds of these tools produced misleading results that were of little or no use to someone seeking to answer the age-old “Am I going to be OK?” retirement question. A simple case tested…..
